Here is our latest prayer news. There is still much that needs to come together before our departure. Thank you for your continued prayers!
After just two months on the market, the sale of our house in Québec City is now final. We now know that a move will be possible after April 1st. This clears the way to apply for visas at the French Consulate in Montréal. Please continue to pray about all of the other details that must be handled before an actual move, including the right choice of and God’s provision for an overseas moving company. Also, be praying with us for wisdom with regards to the eventual sale of our vehicle and God’s provision for another one in France. In the midst of these and other big decisions, we continue to downsize and pack.

Only a few minutes after the sign went up we received an email from the folks in Rouen informing us of their unanimous vote to send us an “official” invitation. This document is necessary for our application for visas, a process which we have already begun. Recently it has taken an average of 85 days to sell a house like ours in the Quebec City area.
After over two years of a nomadic life, we have a lot of health related appointments to catch up with: Dentist, Doctor, optometrist, ophthalmologist, etc. All must be done before we leave… Our days and weeks are full, but by God’s grace, we manage to squeeze in a few moments with the grandkids. What a joy! What health for the soul! (Pr. 17:22).
Another recent email from France included the following: “We are anxious to see you again and to be encouraged by your faithfulness, love, and patience in Jesus Christ.” Do continue to pray that we can get to France as soon as possible.
God is faithful! Read about it in our latest prayer update.
We have a ways to go in clearing the way for our move to France.
Here is the link for the books that Mike currently has listed for sale in Greenville, SC. These books will accompany us on our next short deputation trip before being delivered to our daughter in Greer, SC on August 10. Let us know if you would like to consider helping us get set up in France by making a purchase. More will be added through the weekend.
We are occasionally asked about Islam in France. Muslims are quite present here in Rouen. Islam is the second most popular religion in France, after Catholicism and represents about 7 to 10% of the population. Apparently, France has the largest population of muslims in Western Europe. The church here is equipped with Arabic New Testaments which are offered regularly. Do pray for this aspect of the ministry here!
We are so thankful to be here in France! We have been hindered in communicating though, as a result of unreliable internet at our apartment. In fact, we have had no service at all for nearly two weeks. The landlords seem to be doing all they can to get things fixed. Would you pray about this? Thankfully, there are folks in the church who open their homes (and wifi) to us for things like bill paying and sending the following update!
“If I had chosen my own life’s work I would have selected a business where I could have stayed at home….No one can be happy outside the center of God’s will. When I was a boy I used to wonder how missionaries who left their native land and went to far-away lands could be happy. The happiest people I have ever seen have been missionaries of the Cross. Happiness doesn’t depend upon where we are. It depends on what we are. The Apostles could sing in dungeons. Martyrs have been able to shout when they were burning at the stake. To you who read these lines, let me suggest that you yield yourself fully and unconditionally to God and let His will be done in your life. This is the secret of happiness.”
